One of the things I love about doing oracle card readings is that you can create any reading that you want and it’ll work. What I mean is that as long as you decide what each card will represent before you do the reading, you’ll have a solid reading.
The three card spread is one of the more popular spreads because it’s quick and easy. It’s one I turn to when I have a quick question about something and need extra guidance. The most common way to read a three card spread is past/present/future however there are many ways you can read them, including making up whatever works best for you.
Start your three card oracle spread by deciding what you want each card to mean. Here are some suggestions:
Past (history/background) | Present (current situation/challenge) | Future (possible outcome/advice)
Current Situation | Obstacle/Block | Advice
Opportunities | Challenges | Outcome
Option 1 | Option 2 | Option 3
Option 1 | Option 2 | Advice
You | Your Current Path | Your Potential
His Side | Her Side | The Truth
You | Him/Her | The Relationship
Once you know what each card means for you, get centered and ask your guides, angels and spiritual teachers for protection and guidance during you reading (or whatever variation of this works for you). Next hold the cards up to your heart and ask your question. Shuffle the cards until you feel complete. If any cards jump out of the deck, put these aside for additional wisdom and clarity for your reading. When you feel ready, pull three cards from the deck and place them side by side as illustrated above – 1, 2, 3. If you need additional clarity around one (or all) of the cards, you can pull additional cards, placing them by the card you needed help with.
Although it may be tempting, go with whatever three cards come out the first time around. This is usually the most accurate. When I first started using oracle cards, I would do this spread over and over until I received cards that reflected more of what I wanted them to be. Since then I have discovered that the cards will tell you more what you need to know, not necessarily what you want to hear. By going with the first spread, you’re also strengthening your trust in the cards and in the process which allows you to have more accurate readings down the road.
I’d love to hear how you use the three card oracle spread and how it works out for you. Please comment below.
